Mindset is a self-perception, a "theory of self" that we have of ourselves. It is the most important parameter to achieve our goals and make changes in our lives. Our mindset, especially in difficult and uncertain times, determines whether we survive, persevere, succeed... or not. Unlike personality traits that may be perceived as permanent, our mindset can be changed quickly.
